A list of seven key areas of business for Manchester has been compiled by a government-funded partnership organisation that aims to help busi-nesses considering setting up in, relocating to or expanding in Manchester. The Manchester Investment and Development Agency Service said shared services, customer contact centres, financial services, biotechnology, digital and creative industries, air transport industries and the food sector look set to be of central importance to the city.

Work has started to establish a £4.2 million business innovation centre at Silverstone race track. A joint venture between track owner the British Racing Drivers' Club and the East Midlands Development Agency, the centre is due to open in October. It will house up to 40 engineering start-up companies as well as more establish-ed firms operating in motor-sport and related industries.
