A report detailing the ways that housing associations in Tayside, Grampian and Fife can support tenants with financial advice was published last week by regeneration agency Communities Scotland. It follows a study of 900 households, which looked at the problems encountered by tenants, such as accessing bank accounts, loans and overdrafts. Plans for an urban cultural festival are expected to get the green light from Birmingham City Council next week. The city has won £2.1 million from the Arts Council and lottery distributor the Millennium Commission for the idea after it lost its bid to become European capital of culture in 2008. The council has also applied for £2 million from regional development agency Advantage West Midlands for the festival, which would run from January 2005 to February 2006.

Milton Keynes firms this week launched a new initiative to boost the construction sector in the city, which is due to double in size over the next 20 years. Called Go Build, the initiative is designed to raise the number of people working in construction in Milton Keynes from 2.5 per cent to above five per cent, the national average. The initiative is run by Milton Keynes marketing campaign Go Milton Keynes.
