A poet has helped to block a north London housing scheme after objecting that it would obscure her view of a tree that inspires her writing. Dinah Livingstone was among a group of Camden Town residents to complain that the proposed four-storey house on a disused builder's yard represented "severe overdevelopment".

During his recent visit to the South West Branch, president Vincent Goodstadt was the guest of Torbay Council. Leader of the council Chris Harris, head of development and conservation planning Les Crump and head of museum services Dr Michael Rhodes showed him round Torre Abbey, founded in 1196 as a monastery. They outlined the Heritage Lottery bid that has been submitted for major grant aid towards the abbey's refurbishment programme.
