A neighbourhood management programme in Bournemouth (above) is among 11 winners of the annual Neighbourhood Management Awards announced by the ODPM last week. The scheme, which covers the Springbourne and Boscombe West areas of the Hampshire town, scooped the neighbourhood partnership of the year award for its successful involvement of local people of all ages. Sam Dias, neighbourhood management coordinator at the Honor Oak estate in the London Borough of Lewisham, won the neighbourhood management coordinator of the year for her work coordinating the regeneration efforts of partners in the Honor Oak Neighbourhood Management Project.

People who have stood up to thugs, vandals and noisy neighbours were honoured last week by the Home Office at the House of Commons. Winners of the Taking a Stand awards included individuals who had cleaned up graffiti and removed abandoned cars. Each of the 32 winners received £1,000.

COMMUNITY RENEWAL BRIEF: Regeneration centre launches two funds

The Scottish Centre for Regeneration, an offshoot of regeneration agency Communities Scotland, this week launched two funds. The New Ideas Fund will offer grants of up to £10,000 for individuals and groups in the Highlands and Islands to develop projects to improve their area. The Seeing is Believing Fund will award grants of between £50 and £5,000 to groups in the same area wanting to visit and learn from successful regeneration schemes.
COMMUNITY RENEWAL BRIEF: New Opportunities Fund and Sport launch initiative

Lottery distributors the New Opportunities Fund and Sport England last week launched a £108 million funding initiative to drive forward community participation in sport and exercise. The Active England scheme is intended to provide new or improved sporting facilities and activity projects in English communities. NOF intends to provide an additional £22.5 million to develop similar initiatives in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Visit www.nof.org.uk.
