The Trevor Osborne Property Group has been appointed as developer by High Peak Borough Council and Derbyshire County Council for the redevelopment of the 9,600 sq m Crescent and Spa heritage site in Buxton. Initial plans include an 87-room hotel and natural mineral water spa, heritage interpretation centre, tourist information centre, shops and a restaurant. Work is expected to start in 2005 and to be completed by 2007.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council has chosen Coltham Developments, Helical Bar and Oswin Developments as preferred developers on a scheme to revamp Shirley town centre. The development is expected to include a food store, a further 6,500 sq m of shop space and more than 60 homes. Consultation on the development will begin in the new year.

A £500 million redevelopment of Bristol's Broadmead shopping centre that will create 2,000 jobs has been granted detailed planning permission. The application by the Bristol Alliance includes a department store, 108 other shops, housing and environmental improvements. Last week Bristol City Council also approved plans for harbourside headquarters for finance company Clerical Medical.

A £5 million fund to renovate historic parkland in Swindon has received the green light from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Lydiard Park Project will initially receive £430,000 from the fund for design and survey work that Swindon Borough Council will use to bid for a further £3 million to fund refurbishment. Plans to revive the 18th century landscape include restoring the great lake and carrying out works on the ornamental gardens, ice house, paths and vistas.

A riverside development in the Kelham Island conservation area in Sheffield has been granted planning permission by the city council. The proposal by developer Raven Group includes the demolition of former industrial sites to open out the River Don. A £4 million extension to the Linden Hall Hotel at Longhorsley, Northumberland, has been given the go-ahead. The four-star hotel, health spa and golf course complex will almost double its rooms to 97 and add eight conference rooms. Castle Morpeth Borough Council regeneration spokeswoman Kay Morris said that the improvements will boost tourism.

Two single regeneration budget grant schemes totalling £2.5 million have been launched by Birmingham City Council to help businesses in the north-west of the city. Grants of up to £50,000 will be made available under the schemes to help prepare land for business development and to modernise existing premises. Around 450 businesses will benefit, creating 500 jobs and safeguarding a further 320.
